What others are saying about Chris Widener...

The Angel Inside is truly one of the most inspiring, encouraging motivational books I have ever read. It speaks to everyone who has ever had a dream about anything that has significance. I found it impossible to stop reading, once I got started. This coming from a man who has never completely read a book of fiction, because I had a closed mind on the subject. I have always said, "When I get all of the truth, then I'll start reading fiction." It was a wonderful thrill to read a book of fiction that contained an enormous amount of truth and encouragement.
Zig Ziglar

One of the great young speakers that just blew me away while I was here is Chris Widener. This young man has the talent, the articulation, the message, the presence, the ability, and the delivery of a dynamic presenter. I think you will be seeing a lot of him in the future; in his books, in his audio programs, his seminars and live presentations. He is one of the brand new top stars on the International platform-speaking circuit.
Denis Waitley

Hey, we have had a fantastic weekend these three days. It has been phenomenal. And thanks to Chris for doing such a fantastic job being the master of ceremonies. Helping making it run smooth. This guy is nothing short of phenomenal. His patience, his knowledge, his ability to engage with everyone. He had to engage with the speakers, audience and everybody. Just phenomenal. Thanks a million Chris, you did a fabulous job.
Jim Rohn

I have spoken to more than 3,000 audiences and I can tell you that Chris Widener is one of the best speakers in America today. He does wonderful introductions, wonderful development, extremely motivational, he is funny, he is sharp, he is quick and to the point. If you are thinking about using him for any reason you can not go wrong with Chris. He is a great guy.
Brian Tracy

Chris Widener is a powerful presenter, a quick wit, and a home run every time. He definitely challenges you to the next level in life and work.
Kevin Mather, CFO, Seattle Mariners Baseball Team

Our people loved Chris and loved his material. He was extremely helpful and challenging. My sales team and I highly recommend him!
Phil Castillo, Director, Northern Channels, Cisco Systems

Chris was very challenging and enriching. The leadership principles that he spoke on were at the very core of what we are trying to accomplish here on the HBS campus. Chris taught us the tenets of true leadership and how to immediately apply those truths in our own leadership situation. I would encourage everyone to learn from Chris Widener's Extraordinary Leaders seminar!

Issue 68

Welcome!

Has your life ever been in the midst of chaos? I know, I know... I just heard a huge, resounding "Duh, Chris!" Of course we've all experienced times of chaos in our lives. But what I want to talk about to you today is your attitude in the midst of the chaos. Now, I think I might have heard a slight groan?... ;-) Don't worry, I'm not here to "scold", instead my purpose is to just remind you of what it can be or shift a paradigm here.

Into all our lives will fall times of challenges or chaos -- I am of the belief that they help us forge our character, smooth the rough spots (as I wrote about in The Angel Inside) and prepare us for future challenges or equip us to help others going through similar experiences. All good right? Right, until we hit that brick wall that feels 20 feet thick and all of our resolve and vision crumbles and feels like 500 year old mortar that has been ground to dust and carried away by the wind.

Well, for you fans of the movie Finding Nemo, it's just like what Dory sings/says, "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming." And not only that but she's happy as she goes about her business. Now, don't read too much into my choice, and say something like, "C'mon Chris, that's just because she's oblivious to what's really going on around her and the seriousness of the situation."

My point is this: We GET to CHOOSE our attitude... Yes, we can be absolutely miserable in whatever situation we find ourselves in OR we can choose to find the nuggets, the good things even amongst the challenges. Sometimes you're going to have to look really hard, but I truly believe there is always something of value that can be found in whatever our situations are. Its like Jim Rohn says, "You can use circumstances as a crutch or a school that will either cripple you or teach you for YOUR future."

Which attitude will serve you better?

Life Rewards Action by Chris Widener

Thinking is good, yes it is. I strongly encourage thinking. In fact, thinking plays a terrific role in success. It helps you strategize. It helps you get motivated. It tunes you into success. I am all for thinking and I do it regularly!

That being said, just thinking, no matter how good of a thinker you are, will never catapult you to success. The difference between the thinker who succeeds and the thinker who doesn't is that the thinker who succeeds also ACTS!

Life does not reward thinking. Life rewards action. Let me clarify: Life rewards thoughtful action.

Think first, by all means... But then ACT!
Do you want to gain wealth? Then save your money - ACT!
Do you want to lose weight? Then hit the treadmill - ACT!
Do you want a new job? Then find a new one so you can quit your current one - ACT!
Do you want to write a book? Then begin to write - ACT!
Do you want a new friend? Then introduce yourself - ACT!

Anything you want to accomplish will only be done by bold and decisive action.

Wishing won't bring it about. Neither will dreaming. Nor will hoping. Nope, you must ACT.

What is it you want from life? Tell me. Be specific. Be clear. Think about it. Strategize. Roll it around inside that noggin of yours. Got it? Good. Now what? What will you DO to turn that non-physical electrical impulse we call a thought into a physical reality?
There is only one thing: ACTION.

Will you succeed? Will you achieve your dreams? Will you live the life that you want? Only you can make that decision because only you can decide whether or not you will act.

My friends, life rewards action. Your actions do not need to be perfect. They just need to be. And then they get rewarded with success. With achievement. Accomplishment. You have the power within you to lead YOUR life as you see it. There is only one question you must answer for yourself:

Will I act?

Because Life Rewards Action.

2. Made for Success Quote and Commentary

"They that will not be counseled cannot be helped. If you do not hear reason she will rap you on the knuckles." -- Benjamin Franklin

Chris' Commentary:
It seems to me that one of the primary things that keeps people from succeeding is that they won't receive counsel from others. I know a gentleman who has a lot going for him but he also has a few idiosyncrasies that actually keep him from moving forward. I have talked to him about it. I know a few others have talked to him about it. Yet, he won't hear anything of it! And where will he stay because of it? Right where he is currently! We aren't perfect. We don't see all nor know all. We need the advice of other people to keep us growing. The motto I try to live by (and am not very good at sometimes), is "take all the advice you can get and give as little advice as you can!" One fact is for sure: If we don't listen to the good counsel of others, eventually life will teach us the lesson itself. It is better to heed the advice of others than to learn the hard way.

Action Point: Find an area of your life or work that you would like to grow in. Now begin to ask people you respect what their advice is in that area. Have them be specific to you personally in their advice. Then spend some time mulling that advice around and see if you haven't found the nugget that will take you to the next level!

3. The Last Word...

This week's choice comes from Brian Tracy and is simply called: The Seven C's of Success

Brian, after having studied top achievers and peak performers over the past 25 years, concluded that these unique men and women, have in most cases, mastered what he calls the Seven C´s of Success.

1. Clarity -  Eighty percent of success comes from being clear on who you are, what you believe in and what you want.

2. Competence - You can't climb to the next rung on the ladder until you are excellent at what you do now.

3. Constraints - Eighty percent of all obstacles to success come from within. Find out what is constraining in you or your company and deal with it

4. Concentration - The ability to focus on one thing single-mindedly and see it through until it's done takes more character than anything else.

5. Creativity - Flood your life with ideas from many sources. Creativity needs to be exercised like a muscle, if you don't use it you'll lose it.

6. Courage - Most in demand and least in supply, courage is the willingness to do the things you know are right

7. Continuous learning - Read, at the very least, one book a week on business to keep you miles ahead of the competition. And just as you eat and bathe, organize your time so you spend 30 minutes a day exploring e-mail, sending messages, going through web sites, because like exercise, it's the only way you can keep on top of technology. If you get away from it, you'll lose your edge.

Like this information? Then you'll love watching my recent interview with Brian!

I used some of my connections, pulled a few strings and was able to land one-on-one, in-depth conversations with Brian Tracy, one of America's leading authorities on development of human potential and personal effectiveness.

We covered a lot of topics like:

How "the law of cause and effect" works, and how you can use it to design the life you've always dreamed about

Combinations, recipes and formulas for success

The most valuable education you can give yourself. Clue: It's not an MBA, and it's worth 10-20 times more than  a university education

An insider look into the mindset of top salespeople. (This is the secret they keep "hush-hush" so they always have an edge over their competitors.)

How to be a master at anything

The simple key to prosperity and entrepreneurial success

and so much more!!
